details

A well-known Porsche 356 racing car that has been developed over the last 10 years by some of the best names in the historic racing business. Usually the fastest 356 at any event it attends, it has raced successfully at many of the biggest meetings including the Goodwood Revival, Le Mans Classic and Silverstone Classic. It claimed pole position in the Fordwater Trophy at the 2018 Goodwood Revival Meeting.

Owned by racing driver Sam Tordoff (of BTCC and Carrera Cup fame), the car has enjoyed careful and thorough preparation by Woolmer Race Engineering. It has a recently built state of the art FIA compliant 1598cc engine from Jaz Porsche. This features a Scat crank, Carillo rods, Elgin cam, new gas-flowed billet cylinder heads and custom high compression pistons. It produced 140hp at 6,900 rpm on the static dyno and has only done one race since it was completed. It has a full flow oil filter system with front oil coolers.

The car is running re-valved Bilstein dampers and Carrera front brake drums. The gearbox has also just been rebuilt and a limited slip diff fitted.

The car has entries for the both the forthcoming Goodwood Members’ Meeting and the 2022 Le Mans Classic where, interestingly, it would run right at the front of the Grid 2 for cars built 1949-1956.

There can be fewer more desirable racing 356s to come to market in recent years.
Our thoughts

Racing 356s appeal to us for many reasons. Their eligibility, their competitiveness against other drum-braked cars of the same era, their strength and reliability and the simple fact that they are huge fun to drive fast.

With entries already secured for the most prestigious international historic race meetings in Europe, as well as the confidence of knowing that no expense has been spared in the car’s preparation by historic racing experts, there can be fewer more desirable racing 356s to come to market in recent years.

The car has had great success in the hands of the both the current and previous owner (driven by Gareth Burnett) and would be welcomed at any race meeting, road race or 356 enthusiasts’ event. We look forward to finding a great new home for this car, be it with novice or seasoned racer.
