This 1965 Porsche 911 was supplied in October 1965 through Art Bunker in Kansas City, USA.  It retains its original colour combination of Light Ivory exterior with black vinyl interior and is numbers matching.  The car is in an exceptionally original state, with original body panels, interior and running gear.  It has been repainted externally some time ago but has not been subject to a major restoration.  It has been well maintained in recent years, including a full engine rebuild.

The car was delivered to its first owner in Kansas City in 1965.  He used the car enthusiastically for three years but took care to maintain it impeccably.  There are 8 service entries from the supplying dealer in the original Porsche service book.  The car spent just a year with its second owner before being sold to its third owner in Colorado in 1970.  It would stay with this family for the next 38 years before being discovered by the current UK owner in 2009.

He imported the car and had it sympathetically refurbished by a well-respected North London classic Porsche specialist.  As part of this process the engine was fully rebuilt in 2015 to an uprated high compression specification.

This is where it all started. The very first Porsche 911 model. A car that would go on to dominate in showrooms and on race tracks the world over, becoming widely accepted as the greatest sports car of all time.

Our thoughts

To experience the car as it was originally intended is a revelation.  Light, compact, delicate and tactile – we find these very early cars joyful to drive and fascinating to own. They are a true piece of automotive history.

This car wears its 55 years remarkably well.  A survivor which has never suffered the indignity of being rebuilt and which still bears its maker’s mark.  We would leave the patina as it is and enjoy using the car free from the worry of stone chips and scratches.   Mechanically it is on the button with a strong, torquey engine and well set-up suspension.

The car has been looked after by the right people and drives superbly.  The acceleration is lusty and the car is more than capable of keeping ahead of most modern traffic, as well as providing satisfyingly rich feedback along the way.

One of the most endearing characteristics of the 911 is its total usability.  In this refreshingly honest and unmolested example, you can experience the origin of the species as often as you like.
