details

Our LHD 964 Carrera Cup is an earlier example, built at the Porsche Stuttgart factory in 1991 and originally sold in Germany.  Leaving the factory in ‘Grand Prix White’, the car is listed with black cloth/leatherette interior as well as additional options of a sports leather steering wheel with elevated hub and locking differential.

An original ONS-Wagenpaß records the car’s registration under Herbet Gerl with the German motorsport association on 13 March in that year although there is no record of participation in any competition.

The car was subsequently imported to the UK and registered on 25 March 1998 with three recorded keepers since that time, latterly Mr Brian Cowan of Borden, Hampshire, who acquired the car on 11 December 2003.

Throughout its time in the UK, the car has been maintained by a number of reputable Porsche specialists, including RSR Engineering, official Porsche Centre Rivervale in Brighton, German-based Manthey-Racing and Paragon, with whom the car is recorded as taking part in a round of the British Racing & Sports Car Club’s (BRSCC) Michelin Porsche Open Series at Brands Hatch in 2003.

The car was sold to Sports Purpose in September 2018 following a full service by Paragon, including replacement of the fan belt, front and rear brake discs, pads and sensor wires, repainted brake calipers and full geometry setup.

In addition to its original roll-cage and race setup, the car has for some fifteen years sported a stunning Mika Häkkinen TAG Heuer-branded replica livery, refurbished Speedline 18” magnesium wheels, and both driver and passenger Recaro racing seats and Sabelt harnesses.

Both usable on the road and for on-track, the 964 Cup would be a great option for the enthusiast driver looking for something a bit different.
Our thoughts

Porsche have always been cars that you can drive to the race track, use and drive home again.

Starting with the purity of the rear-wheel drive Carrera 2 and then the yet more stripped-back performance focus of the RS, the Cup is possibly the purest racing variant of the 964-era 911, devoid of all obsolete interior comfort features and fully focused for the track.

Both usable on the road and for on-track, the 964 Cup would be a great option for the enthusiast driver looking for something a bit different. Perhaps one day there will even be a one-make race series for them again…
